Akanesasu Shoujo was… intriguing? Maybe? I'm kind of burned out of this type of mahou shoujo. It didn't manage to do anything interesting to tie in its setting with its battles (choreography, skills, etc), which certainly doesn't bode well. From now on, if it focuses on worldbuilding and mystery, it could be nice. Mainly because it actually has the elements for a nice "exploring real urban legends" series, but also because the staff behind it isn't a complete disaster. But it will probably focus on the battles (read: on shilling figurines) and the drama. Which will suck. It should be clear which way it'll go if I give it a couple of episodes more.

There are many concepts in the story that are not that bad, but story itself is shit. It is drivel. It is something between amateurish shit and what a normalfag might genuinely think of smart. And then there is the absolutely generic anime art-style, but a bit darker and Yuri is not even cute, which makes her existences that more annoying, because she is there just for the extra young girl character, but then again the real loli does the job better. Except this episode even she had read about Derrida's fucking thesis. How fucking dense do you have to be to write such children? The animation is no better. It is either just barely hanging there or sperging out and making Derrida move like some cockroach from time to time. There is nothing inspiring about this shit. It is in fact annoying how much they obviously want it to be something more, but neither the animators, nor the writers have put in the effort. It is like "We such geniuses, so even when we are lazy we are doing masterpieces." The fucking time travel plot has become so stupid in the newest episode. The machines barely actually matter. How society functions is a fucking unknown. So far it feels like nothing interesting or of meaning has happened at all. Every episode is a waste of air time. The characters are boring, the word is boring, the plot is unutilized and every time they will try to do something with it, it will end up being bad.

The new anime by the Sakurasou author continues to be decent. The MC isn't anywhere near apathetic anymore, just reserved. You can't even accuse it of drama baiting, considering the anime started with the punchline. It's simply progressing the story. I suppose the third episode will be angst. If it's done well, this series may actually be worth it. But I still doubt it, Just Because was written after the first volume of this. I mean, the anime could have been better if it had done more on this front, but frankly it was not a priority (though, judging by what screenshots I've taken, seems like Anti was my own priority). What I'm reminded of is how good Mizukami is at doing exactly endings. Anyway.
The main problem of me watching Gridman is that either the series did too little with its fights, or that I'm too stupid to get some deep narrative meaning interwoven in them, because I'm not a tokusatsu fan or something. Let's assume it's the first, as I can't comment on the second. Then, the series is just way too short to waste time on battles in such a way. Do more with the monster design, god fucking damn it. There even is the character to use: Utsumi. Have him relate to Akane THROUGH understanding her kaiju designs. Do more with the fight choreography and backstage. In the end, it felt like a toy commercial, which … I mean, it does work as a homage, and homage it was, but it would have been cool if it was more than a homage.
The rest is mostly nitpicking. It was fine. Well, lots of it was more than fine. Rikka's mom best girl and best character. They did well with the cast and their interactions. Animation was mostly great, with some stylistic choices that were quite awesome. Except the battles, the battles were way too focused on being homages for me to care enough. Songs were not the best, but oh well, they were fine. All in all, definitely one of the better anime series for the year.
No.26750
>>26601Judging by some of the language used in the anime, I think it is pretty much written with "the body determines the mind within" as a principle (for example like what some of the other characters were commenting about Eva-chan-senpai at some point in Negima). This would mean that not only Yuuta really is like that, but that the comment "Even if he does not remember it, it is still engraved in his body" means the character development is still there. Gridman does say that he's not just Gridman, he's also Yuuta, which would not make sense if he's not being Yuutafied just by residing in Yuuta's body. So, I'm saying, it was fine.

Irozuku Sekai indeed achieved what it set out to do, but I feel that its scope was way too small. Within the scope we had one character only and her inner world only. What about the rest of the characters and the rest of the world? Both characterization of them and whatever worldbuilding we got served as plot convenience to that one heroine’s story, and nothing more. I feel like we could have easily gotten so much more without any loss of focus or pacing. Heck, all that was needed was background details: like confirmation who fucked who in the photo albums in the end, or consistent magical system in book excerpts throughout the series. If we want to be brave, her going to an exhibit during the ending montage would have helped immensely to shift the perception for the scope of the story, at least for those who have just finished the series. And so on, and so on.
tl;dr: it was fine.
