>>26302>The drama is often done poorly from my perspective, but it hardly militates against my enjoyment.Don't worry, this alone was detailed enough. With this, I can easily extrapolate from my own experience with the series. I may finish it if I don't have enough anime to stave off my travel time.

>>26309This episode specifically was bad, though. The chink dragons arc was obviously written for two episodes too, but what we got instead is only one episode worth of that script. And we didn't even get a delicious tomboy. Next ep should be better. It's again first half of a two-parter.

I really liked the latest episode. The eerie choir work was really cool too.

>>26448More or less, yeah. There was less sense of progression than in previous arcs, but it fitted the theme, so it's okay. As far as design and animation direction go, this arc was definitely the best.

>>26500This might very well be the best piece of anime I have watched all year.
The animation is so shitty, but it works in such a perfect synchronization with the shitty writing. Humanity doesn't deserve such perfection.
This episode I laughed to tears myself too, multiples times. It is just too good.

The piano piece that started to play around the eight minute mark was beautiful. It's a shame that the "turning point" in the battle felt disjointed as hell, but such is life.

I initially didn't plan to watch Gridman past the first episode after how bad that was, but was convinced to pick it up again after seeing how significantly the CGI fights improved in episode 3. This was a mistake, for the show ended up being a fucking mess that dragged on for ages and focused on none of what was actually interesting about it and entirely on how stupid the characters and their interactions were.
No.26601
>>26592Same.
What I did care about was that Yuuta, the supposed protagonist, wasn't even there. It was all Gridman. Yuuta was just a host and isn't even going to remember anything after the end. Any kind of character development for the past 11 eps was thrown out the window.
I think thats the reason why I found the ending to be weak - the one character that held all the other characters together got flushed down the drain.

>>26601God damn that could've been handled in a much better way.
No.26749
>>26601It was fine and shit. It's engraved in his heart or something. I mean, the anime could have been better if it had done more on this front, but frankly it was not a priority (though, judging by what screenshots I've taken, seems like Anti was my own priority). What I'm reminded of is how good Mizukami is at doing exactly endings. Anyway.
The main problem of me watching Gridman is that either the series did too little with its fights, or that I'm too stupid to get some deep narrative meaning interwoven in them, because I'm not a tokusatsu fan or something. Let's assume it's the first, as I can't comment on the second. Then, the series is just way too short to waste time on battles in such a way. Do more with the monster design, god fucking damn it. There even is the character to use: Utsumi. Have him relate to Akane THROUGH understanding her kaiju designs. Do more with the fight choreography and backstage. In the end, it felt like a toy commercial, which … I mean, it does work as a homage, and homage it was, but it would have been cool if it was more than a homage.
The rest is mostly nitpicking. It was fine. Well, lots of it was more than fine. Rikka's mom best girl and best character. They did well with the cast and their interactions. Animation was mostly great, with some stylistic choices that were quite awesome. Except the battles, the battles were way too focused on being homages for me to care enough. Songs were not the best, but oh well, they were fine. All in all, definitely one of the better anime series for the year.
No.26750
>>26601Judging by some of the language used in the anime, I think it is pretty much written with "the body determines the mind within" as a principle (for example like what some of the other characters were commenting about Eva-chan-senpai at some point in Negima). This would mean that not only Yuuta really is like that, but that the comment "Even if he does not remember it, it is still engraved in his body" means the character development is still there. Gridman does say that he's not just Gridman, he's also Yuuta, which would not make sense if he's not being Yuutafied just by residing in Yuuta's body. So, I'm saying, it was fine.

Irozuku Sekai indeed achieved what it set out to do, but I feel that its scope was way too small. Within the scope we had one character only and her inner world only. What about the rest of the characters and the rest of the world? Both characterization of them and whatever worldbuilding we got served as plot convenience to that one heroine’s story, and nothing more. I feel like we could have easily gotten so much more without any loss of focus or pacing. Heck, all that was needed was background details: like confirmation who fucked who in the photo albums in the end, or consistent magical system in book excerpts throughout the series. If we want to be brave, her going to an exhibit during the ending montage would have helped immensely to shift the perception for the scope of the story, at least for those who have just finished the series. And so on, and so on.
tl;dr: it was fine.
