I recently finished reading A Dream of Summer's main route again. I think I cried just as much as the first time I read it. It's simple and short, but beautiful too. I also learned you can play it from your browser in a higher resolution nowadays.

I'm ashamed to say I haven't played those two yet, especially Muv-Luv. I keep meaning to play the latter, but I always get distracted with another thing.

I never understood what the appeal of sad games was, there’s enough of that stuff in real life. Sad media in general.

 No.28508

>>28507
You can feel you are not sad alone, more in-synch with the world.
Or just entertaining. In general any kind of genre can be "fun", so when some people argue about having to be serious and not having fun to be art or some stupid shit, they miss that even the serious things we watch, we watch because they are entertaining us in some way and we are having indeed fun. Just not the laughing out loud kind of fun. In fact when done properly maybe it even has a stronger effect on us than just comedy.

>Sad media in general.
It's the only feeling left that I can sort of feel a connection to. Most of my other feelings like happiness are incredibly fleeting, and pass quickly like a breeze; whereas sadness is like floating in the sea. An empty world, a bottomless depth, and waves which gently envelope me as I stare up at the bright lights that are so far away. It's cathartic in a way.. probably.

There is a fucking server emulating the Nintendo servers for NDS, that are not shut down http://zwei.moe/ You can download DLCs and play online on it. Using melonDS as emulator for NDS is optimal for it, but you can use it, and probably easier, on a real NDS. Making the online work for me was very dodgy. Tethering through the fucking phone seems to be the one universal solution that seems to work with almost everyone.
Used this to download the DLC ghost players in Yu-Gi-Oh! WC 2011.

I finished Rune Factory 2's main story. Compared to the first game, there are quite a few improvements: very welcome UI tweaks, fewer but more diverse dungeons, smarter monsters, better combat, more dialogue, requests, and most of all, post-game content.
With that said, I feel like RF1 has one thing that its sequel does not, and that is not every character is seemingly and stupidly happy all the time, and there was at least one story event that gave me agency. Russell, for example, is worried over his past experiences as a soldier. Hell, he drinks to soothe his troubled heart. Ceci expressed some concerns as well. Sabrina and Neumann's whole spat was a nice little attempt at adding some character; it's a shame that after resolving their conflict, nothing really changed, and some dialogue wasn't updated too. Ivan gave some meager world building, but it was a nice to hear that the world isn't perfect. Melody gave up her dream to be a witch. And then there is Sharron suspicions about the cave she was guarding. Going into the characters' houses and hearing more personable stuff was cool, and going to the pub in the evening with people pounding their drinks gave more life to the village. There's probably more, but I think that's most of it. Overall, RF2's characters didn't charm me as much as the first game's people despite the sequel containing more dialogue, less repetition, and more changes.
The first game aside, I have another big problem: the idea of splitting the game between a character and his son is a good idea, but they messed that up. Allowing your character to craft some stuff by having incomplete crafting stations in his home would've been a great way to reduce the tedium of the game's first half. That and since the initial part of the game is focused on marriage, they should've made the courting process in-depth. Yue and Cecilia are cute as hell (loli Ceci > adult Cecilia), but there wasn't much to do considering how much god damn time I had to waste. Post-marriage was particularly brutal; your wife did pretty much nothing, and you were just waiting around for her to give birth. Very little dialogue added as well.

Others small issues: not enough storage between what your house and the school provide, slogging through school lessons, Jake and his faggot son (I like characters that you have to win over, but fuck them.), searching for items with your monster is not that fun and sometimes buggy, the inability to use a monster during a festival, etc etc etc.
Bitching and problems aside, I'm glad I played two as it was quite fun, and seeing grown-up Ceci was a nice treat. (Wish she was more than a follow-up to Tabatha.)
Yue is super cute!

Forgot: Another small problem I had is that the waterpot's second to last upgrade installed a radius that wasn't divisible by three. Thankfully, getting the last upgrade is quite easy, but the few days that I had to water my glorious crops with that disgusting radius made me sad.
To balance this quibble, not having to manually put cut fodder into the barn was such a nice change.

Super Giant Enourmous Robot Wars.
The big tits are appreciated, but I didn't think this is a fucking turn based RPG with shinny, long animations when you attack/defend, that I am sure won't get annoying by the second time you see them. Even worse, the mouse is completely useless.

>Even worse, the mouse is completely useless.
I'd be odd if this weren't the case.

 No.28841

>>28840
Only in a world where ports are always trash. Works fine for menus and such. When you are on the field, and mind you move the robots every turn on the field, the mouse moves fucking atrociously. It could have easily been way better than playing with a gamepad. Just this one thing.
Also Doraemon - Story of Seasons is out. Played it for around 20 minutes before quitting. Playing is not really the word though, because I was still in the part where they introduce you to the stupid plot, but don't let you save at any point.

>Also Doraemon - Story of Seasons is out. Played it for around 20 minutes before quitting. Playing is not really the word though, because I was still in the part where they introduce you to the stupid plot
How is it stupid? I'm going to start playing the game soon, and I expected the story to be simple but charming.
>but don't let you save at any point.
That's pretty fucking dumb. I hate when they do this.

 No.28859

>>28858
It is simple, alright. Maybe you will find it for charming too, but the dialogue was too much for me. At least you can skip VN-type events, but you can't actually skip everything, so there is that too. Wanted to try changing the languange to Japanese, but of course, no menu. If you restart the game to get to the title screen you will find no option for Japanese, about which I guess I shouldn't be surprised with a Steam release. Though Ao no Kanata has Japanese. You can even switch while playing the story. I guess it is a VN so it doesn't count as much, but it actually seems to have a very good new engine and many PC options, more than some AAA games nowadays.

 No.28863

>>28859
I plan on playing it on the Switch, so I hope things aren't as bad there.
The recent VNs I have played have, as you exemplified with Aokana, do indeed seem pretty slick, thankfully. Probably thanks to developers having moved from ad-hoc solutions to Unity and the like.

 No.28865

I don't see why the Doraemon game would be any different on the Switch. Maybe if it actually has a Japanese option, but that's it and it is a maybe.

I began I am Setsuna. The art, sounds, and music–the piano tracks especially–are damn good. The same cannot be said of the explanation and execution of important game mechanics. Whoever decided that certain materials may only be dropped when an enemy's remaining HP is exactly depleted is an ass. Oh, and the Vita version exhibits significant lag during combat.

The common route might be an insipid slog. Most of the girls might be insufferable. The MC might be more annoying than usual. And the translation is suspect. But god damn, at least she's cute and tolerable, and the character art is nice. (The places look nice too.)

Finished the class rep's route in Period, and it was unremarkable; it didn't evoke any emotion. That, and some points of interest one would think would be part of the route's development never went anywhere, or were merely shallow.
Think I'll probably move onto something else, and leave this to finish at a later time. Doubt the other routes are any better.

It's here: Nayuta's official localization. Years ago the game got a poor, ESL fan translation, and then another guy created an edited MTL on top of that. The official one takes some liberties as usual, but it's at least coherent. I just wish I could play it on my PSP since that's comfier than a Switch or PC, but I can't say that the improved graphical fidelity isn't welcome.
