No.36115
>>36114Hijacking your question to dump my own thoughts.
The setting's original to say the least, and it's nothing remotely close to realistic, so it's hard to build up the wrong expectations. Exposition is rather in-your-face about specific details that you mustn't miss, but for the most part you're allowed to discover the world by watching the characters interact with it normally. The girls' main traits and character dynamics are presented well enough. But the focus is clearly on the train porn. Besides deliberate close-ups of controls or other machinery, you also get scenes that nonchalantly showcase some less well known piece of machinery, surely a treat for those in the know.
In short, there's a lot of love poured into one specific aspect, and the other aspects are done more than well enough to let you enjoy that one thing, yet not so thoroughly well that you may get the wrong idea about what the show's point is. I'm in for sure.
No.36116
>>36114"Tsutomu, I bow" was actually my overall impression of the first episode.
>>36115The first episode was really stacked full of stuff, which I kinda think was to its detriment. Maybe introducing all of the elements more slowly would have been better, for example introducing Youka and showing the 7G scene in the second episode instead of the first. But on the other hand that scene certainly is an attention-grabber so I also get why they wanted it at the start. That being said, I am also in for sure.

I watched almost nothing last season. So far this season doesn't look promising at all. How do I get my passion for anime back?
No.36119
>>36117>How do I get my anime passion back?Go watch OVAs from the 80's and 90's. As a fan of the area where anime girls and action intersect, I'm currently watching Iria: Zeiram The Animation and can vouch for its enjoyability.
Alternately, try the standard fufufu treatment and watch Kamichu!. You probably did that already, though.
No.36122

No.36125
>>36124The dude ain't even yandere enough - they should have at least committed to it fully. For me it's way too close to "boring people doing boring people things" type of romcom. Neither of the characters has much happening in their life besides "understanding what love is".
In comparison, the elf slave romcom with the tsundere magician is somewhat more interesting. It's heavy on the wish fulfillment but at least the characters are not boring. I think that will be my seasonal dose of unassuming romcom.

Putting aside that existential threat, this anime has a 2000s-vibe that I appreciate. Its upside will mostly be determined by how pervasive and serious the alien stuff will be.

The joke is that the other hero starts at level 1 with all 999 in all stats, but does not raise them at all with leveling, while he starts at level 1 with completely average stats, but at level 2 all of them jump to infinity and he learns all the spells.
But let's face it, nobody is watching the anime for his powers. It's all about his KugiRie-voiced wife:

Solid episode. The lad's NEET father is real piece of work. Before the bento's disappearance, I assumed the food thief would be him, but the mystery gets a little weirder.
I hope the subsequent episodes are at least more or less like this one.
>>36201Yeah, the preview has me excited, and how could one not be? Loli & witch hats is a winning combination!
No.36211
>>36195It continues to be retarded, but the entire cast is adorable, so eh. It certainly helps the matters that combat-wise the focus is on the abilities of the entourage, while KugiRie defeats every monster with one hit, and her husband defeats every army of monsters with one hit, so very little screentime is wasted on their fights. And even the time that is wasted on their fights is always to set up some other gag, usually involving the entourage. So the series uses its resources wisely. Though, in the end, the main appeal really is KugiRie's voice acting.
No.36228

>>36272>>36280I share your enthusiasm. A surprising and overall very good episode. The cult leader proved a more interesting and versatile character than I expected. I also loved that they made good on the pachinko foreshadowing after all.
And now we have four girls' band yuri anime this season, and this one is funnier than kurage, has less drama than sasakoi, and has more accurate CG models than band cry, since these are 3D scanned from REAL anime girls!
No.36287
>>36269I think this is the first time someone of fufufu gives my season's favourite a real chance, I don't even know what to do.
On the music I subjectively disagree, since I rather like the sound of the chibi's angry voice, but I don't have any objective statement to make on it. The animation did put me off initially also, because some of the motions and face expressions struck me as being pixaresque, but I got over that.
I see what you mean with the voice acting. Up to episode 5, I would've disagreed, and may have suggested that it was unorthodox on purpose, to give the whole anime a more amateurish sound. But now the keyboardist has gone and opened her mouth, and her VA definitely wasn't cast for her acting skills.
No.36288
>>36269>>36287But on your overall analysis, I agree wholeheartedly. I love this kind of story about characters with issues, because they're relatable, but their flaws keep them from becoming admirable. This helps you keep a certain emotional distance, which allows you to enjoy their struggles even when their problems are petty or self-imposed. If on top of that they play and sing on stage wearing cute outfits, it's automatically AOTS for me. To me, this anime is very similar to Bang Dream! It`s MyGo!!!!! - a rare high point in a franchise that has been busy digging its own grave for years.
No.36292

The popularity of the manhwa made me expect at least some brain-off average shonen with good animation, but no. Instead they blow the fucking budget pointlessly on the first few episodes, then fuck up the pacing for the next 4. And when we FINALLY get some action with the main character it looks like this?

>>36370"Rather than fluent English, actually hate speech that's unbearable to listen to"
I saw the first half of the sentence from your post before watching the episode, and thought they just fabricated the "hate speech" part… so I was quite surprised when I got to that and the note indeed includes "hate speech".
P.S. Sasuga, she already has a harem.
No.36374
>>36371>I was quite surprised when I got to that and the note indeed includes "hate speech". Me too. Even though one can grasp what "hate speech" means in this context, I'd like to nonetheless think he's cluelessly calling for TND, over and over again.
>P.S. Sasuga, she already has a harem. And lackeys!
>>36373When you're at the top, those beneath you just have to deal with it. Hope Yuuna picks a good villain's name.
No.36388
>>36371>"Rather than fluent English, actually hate speech that's unbearable to listen to"Why 'rather'? The note says による, not より, so I think the subs are spot-on in fact. The wordier and more explicit による is sort of diluted into a milder 'in', but in exchange English needs to add an 'actually' to make explicit a contradiction of expectations that's apparent in Japanese. Funny how that works!
Incidentally, to express that something is B while expected to be A, I think Japanese would typically use よりも rather than simply より. Possibly どころか to further emphasise the discrepancy.
Unrelatedly, I loved this line. I think I played it back five times while watching the episode, and as many again making the webm.
No.36389
>>36388oh, fuck, I've misread that, I thought it's yori
No.36390
>>36292Welp. I am still one episode behind, but the whole "I want to beat DiaDust" has overthrown the rest of the plot and has made everything waaaaay too theatrical. I liked the much more down to earth start of the anime, unrealistic performances aside, so this right now is a definitive downgrade. Even with the lesbianism progressing.
Speaking of which, I can't quite catch up with Karasu either. At the start they seemed to be setting up a much more intricate medieval fantasy with political drama, but then the actual main guy who drives the plot is like a bull in a china shop. But even leaving him aside, the plots of everybody else are fairly one-dimensional too. So… I just always prioritize other shit over this one.
I will catch up with Shuumatsu soon tho, I found that's best when I have a few episodes to watch together.
No.36393
>>36390Once again I agree with you for all the wrong reasons. I don't mind the DiaDust plot at all, as it makes the gremlin face her demons and drives forward her conflict with the guitarist. And yet, I do feel that this show has lost its way as of late, and is falling short of its own potential.
In episode 8, for example, I like the scene with the encounter in the parking lot, because the characters are in-character and forced to take a stance and show us a new face. But the lead-up to it makes no sense. Why would the guitarist go so far out of her way to allow an encounter she didn't want to happen, to happen?
My impression is that we're passing the right checkpoints for the plot and characters to move forward, but the path between the checkpoints isn't right. A weird detour here, an apparent point-to-point warp there. But, hey, for an ad about an idol group doomed to fail, the writing's not all that bad.
No.36394
>>36393And to celebrate the fact that I didn't get a FILE TOO BIG error, I'll rant some more.
I'm catching up with the sasakoi manga. There's a girl with the same backstory and conflict as the keyboardist in episode 9 of this anime, with some added lesbianism maybe. But there's no genki twintailed brat to magically dispel the conflict over there. There is, however, a pink-haired gay tennen with the power to annoy everyone until their anger completely drains away. I guess that'll work too.
No.36395
>>36370I hate when Nips pick up these useless buzzwords.
No.36396
>>36393>Why would the guitarist go so far out of her way to allow an encounter she didn't want to happen, to happen?Yeah, exactly! It feels way too theatrical. But how do you get to such a scene at all? The DiaDust plot demands they get it out in front of the other band, but I don't see any logical way of getting to there. So instead it becomes a theatrical warping from one point in the plot to another.
