No.33794
Out of some unused disk sectors and a bunch of old screenshots, I made us a thread to discuss Do It Yourself!!
Previously, in the seasonal thread
>>33656 :
- Yua Serufu is a stupid name
- Juliet Queen Elizabeth VIII is a royally awesome name
- mixed feelings about the aesthetics
- don't give Self-chan unsupervised access to power tools
- speculation about the setting's eventual significance
- electronics people and arts-and-crafts people should all nakayoku

>don't give Self-chan unsupervised access to power toolsI'd feel more comfortable if she didn't have access at all.

So I guess that Jobko is Elon's daughter. Her name makes sense now.

>>33829If the final episode doesn't have a rotoscoped Musk, then this anime will be dead to me.

Honestly, Jobko was enough with the "foreign princess" gimmick. Shii's cool otherwise.
No.33889
>>33887>Bulldozer-chanConsidering it came from Jobko, I feel like it's somewhat of a derogatory nickname. At least make it Ryzen-chan.

>>33913This episode didn't quite manage to air on 11/7 unfortunately, it would have been quite appropriate.
>I'm kind of disappointed by this show as it's been closer to arts and crafts than any kind of DIY construction thus far. And the characters aren't that interesting to me either.More or less; but that's about what I expected, so I've just been so-so enjoying it.
>Then there's fugging Engrish: too much.I don't even mind it anymore. I'm used to it now.
No.33947
>>33938This was the first episode with actually serious amount of doing it yourself.
But the more I watch this anime, the more I feel that it's written by animators, with focus on how the writing serves the animation rather than on how to have it stand by itself. Truly Eizouken-kei.
No.33982
I call bullshit. They said Jobko made a cellphone by herself, right? How did she do it without any CAD? Heck, don't you need at least a little CAD even just for 3d printing? Her saying that she has no CAD experience was really strange.
No.34004
>>33982Probably through some machine learning bullshit, it is already halfway possible today.
No.34017
Honestly, I now completely get why 3D was so exacerbated about Yourself not getting into the other school if she can get third place on the exams while sleeping during half of them. She probably slept throughout 90% of the entrance exams.
No.34033
>>34015I don't know, but she looks foreign, which in this anime means she's most likely royalty - probably the heir to the Holy Roman Empire, since she's blonde. I didn't pay much attention to her to be honest, because through all that scene I was distracted by thoughts of three-dimensional volumes.
>>33947>But the more I watch this anime, the more I feel that it's written by animators, with focus on how the writing serves the animation rather than on how to have it stand by itself. Truly Eizouken-kei.Something's been bothering me about the writing too, although I think our peeves are different. My feeling is that they have a good checklist on how to make a cute-girls-with-a-hobby anime, but their storyboard skills aren't up to the task, and so, the good elements are all there, but the order and timing in which they're delivered dampens their effect greatly. Actually, looking back at some scenes, it could even be the music that doesn't properly catch up to the scene's mood. I can't tell what it is, but something's keeping this anime a notch or two below great, and that's a pity.

>>34033>I can't tell what it is, but something's keeping this anime a notch or two below great, and that's a pity.Yep. This latest episode especially.
"We left all of our valuable materials right next to the trash, so they threw them out" was so stupid that I didn't even expect it. Also old furniture boards are usually crappy MDF and the like, so not really usable as a material for bearing structures. Only the OGs provided truly helpful stuff… so why didn't the teacher just tell them that from the start? I guess she wanted them to struggle by themselves instead of getting it served on a platter… but she instead gave some cringeworthy lecture on the theme of the show. All of this is part of the overall lack of attention to detail in the writing. And it's the most obvious the moment they tried to introduce any conflict.
Well, whatever, Jobko was cute as fuck so that healed any complaints away.

>>34049>Well, whatever, Jobko was cute as fuck so that healed any complaints away.As expected of Musk's daughter.
I wish I could have liked her enough to not have dropped her show, but I still can't get over her Engrish. Usually I find this stuff endearing, but this time. It annoys me that I can't appreciate her.

This scene is a good example of what I was saying about the writing. On paper, it's a perfectly normal scene to include in this sort of anime; however, the pacing's too slow, and it feels out of place (probably because the slow pacing makes the scene transitions feel like pauses in the narration). There are plenty of small-scale time mismanagement issues like this; and then, of course, there are plot-level issues like
>>34049 said.
If this were made by a new batch of inexperienced creators, I'd be cheering the shit out of them, because clearly they'd have a lot of right ideas and would just need some experience to learn the finer points of the craft. But it's made by the people responsible for Shoujo Shuumatsu Ryokou, Jashin-chan Dropkick, Majo no Tabitabi, Mahou Shoujo Nante Mou Ii Desu kara, and Kageki Shoujo!!, all of which managed mood and timing somewhere between effectively and masterfully. Are the storyboard people the problem, then? Hardly! The least experienced in storyboard work among them were involved in Wonder Egg Priority or Yesterday o Utatte. I don't see anyone who stands out as being prone to quirky decisions, like the 'focus on animation' which
>>33947 suggests, either. So what's going on?
Now, I don't think I need to say this here, but just to be sure: I'm rather loving this anime, mind you. I've watched plenty of anime that had issues way bigger than these, and placed some of them among my all-time favourites. I'm simply surprised, and, as I said, sad rather than disappointed, that this one anime isn't reaching the potential that it obviously had on paper.
No.34099
>>34096oh god I hadn't quite rationalized the time mismanagement in that scene and now I can't unsee it

>>34080The stained glass window part was amazing. Takumin's skill has progressed to a wholly unforeseen level. At the same time, watching her do it, it didn't look that hard and even made me want to give it a shot. Truly she's carrying the weight of the show's inspirational aspect.
Got no screenshot that will do this point justice, so I'll drivel about something else instead. I don't remember when the last time was that I heard an anime character properly say シミュレーション. It's always 趣味レーション these days. Eh, whatever, it rolls off the tongue more easily this way.
No.34104
>>34096I didn't have such great expectations for DIY, but am beginning to see things your way. Maybe the plan was simply unclear or poorly communicated. It could also be that the staff aren't all that interested in these girls and don't feel inspired for this hobby.
>the least experienced in storyboard work among them were involved in Wonder Egg PrioritySo, they've since improved?
>>34103Takumin really makes the most of what little time she's given. I wish we had more Takumin time.

Oh god I finally figured out what was bugging me about this series.
There's no way you could do something like this without utterly losing track of time. I refuse to believe any such club can be going home on time without being chased out by the school guard. We didn't get even one scene of them going overtime.
That being said, it was overall interesting to see how Your Self is actually pretty competent. Not sure how much that counts as an arc, but whatever. 3D got an arc of getting over her best friend's utter lack of focus not allowing her to get in the same school as her. Musk's daughter got the most arc out of all. But the other three didn't really have any development whatsoever. We still know practically nothing about Kokoro. I liked the anime but it really had the potential to be significantly better.

>>36756I actually made bookcase for my manga this summer. Stores would try to sell you 30-40cm deep bookshelves, which would fit two rows of manga one behind the other. That's just dumb. The only problem is that I haven't even finished making the bookcase (two of the shelves were still leaking sap so I let them dry out) yet it is already full to the brim. Including with stuff that would go on the two missing shelves.

Anon actually makes me jealous. I mostly fix broken things, and when I do make something from scratch, it's small, ugly, and spends most of the time in a drawer. It must feel good to have a piece of furniture that you made just standing there, constantly in sight. Even if it's a constant reminder to finish the damned thing, it must feel good.
