How do we innovate the mahou shoujo genre?

Take the magical girls out.

I want something like Asuka but instead of the magical war it's just magical girls working with law enforcement for everyday things. They could even have a magical police woman.

That'd be cool. Would you like to have it be a weekly crime ordeal, or would you build it up to, for example, a terrorist plot?
I'd also like to add that magical adults and lolis are the best. Teenagers and such can go right into the nearest trash incinerator.

 No.27234

>>27232
I'd rather have a weekly plot. They could have some serious episodes in there but not every show needs to build up to some grand finale. Just look at how bad Active Raid was.

 No.27235

All I want is a mahou shoujo SoL. Battles can happen, but only off-screen.

Only let Pine Jam make them.

Mahou Shoujo Nante Mou Ii Desukara? Has some plot, but Hina Logi? Haven't actually watched it, but maybe Komugi-chan is kind of like that too, with a lot of otaku stuff.

 No.27240

>>27237
That was a short, right? Don't know why I skipped it. I should remedy this mistake.
Hina Logi was great, but not quite there. Also it was not so much in the mahou shoujo tradition and more in the generic fantasy tradition. It's much closer to Manaria Friends than to Madoka.
Komugi-chan's entire point was otaku references. You really should watch the original. That reboot from a few years back didn't manage to hold my interest at all. For the record, SoulTaker was pretty bad too, Shinbo or not. Only Magikarte (incl. Z) was great.

Man, I'd forgotten about my love Komugi.
Here you go, the essential Komugi experience: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iHV-sSBa4S8

It’s a short but has two seasons. The important part is there are no battles as the evil was defeated and most of the animation is important things like >>27236

Agreed - I dropped the Komugi reboot after the first episode. (Couldn't believe they didn't have Haruko Momoi play the mc)

Disagreed - having been introduced to the franchise with the reboot, I found it to be a very enjoyable MS-for-sick-fucks. The original is indeed a different genre, but sadly one that doesn't age very well, as the jokes and references that surely were fresh then have been done a million times now.

I watched the original Komugi-chan for the first time shortly before the new one aired. I found the old Komugi to be quite enjoyable, and then similarly dropped the new one after the first episode because of how dull it was. I don't know why they even bothered making it a reboot instead of an original project when it was so out of line with the original.

Does it matter if they've been done a million times if Komugi is the one who does them the best? Even to this day?

>>27252
>I don't know why they even bothered making it a reboot instead of an original project when it was so out of line with the original.
Name recognition. Not even Japan is free of the plight of pointless reboots.

To each their own. Different genre - not what I expected - dropped. I was very disappointed at the time because I had so looked forward to it. Who knows? Maybe someday I'll try the reboot again and love it - it's happened to me several times before with the hundred versions of Star Trek.

Sadly, like memes, a lot of the funniest stuff doesn't age well. If you're an oldfag like me it can still be a fun watch.

Damn, some people just don't get it. Komugi-chan is easily one of my favorites.
I'm assuming you didn't think Pani Poni Dash was very good either?

Here we go again, with fufufu's hivemind taking over. Are you me? Am I you? Nobody knows.

You are a fag, so implying that the other anon is a fag too is very impolite.

I mean. For a comedy it wasn't very funny. Not sure how you could twist it into being something good when it fails at its only genre.

 No.27382

>>27368
You mean you personally didn't find it funny.
Either way, it wasn't exactly comedy for comedy's sake: >>27240
>Komugi-chan's entire point was otaku references.

>>27368
That's your opinion, which is fine. I don't think it's fair to say that it "fails" when you're talking about something as vague and subjective as comedy.
Still curious about what you think of Pani Poni.

Just FYI and to prevent confusion, >>27368 is not me (>>27244). Also I'm pretty sure he WAS talking about PPD, as that's the anime whose goodness was being asked about in the post he replied to.

As for yours truly's opinion of PPD, I watched it back in the day, when I was fairly new to anime, and it blew me away. Yet I watched a couple episodes of it recently and found that it had lost its edge. I suspect I might not like it if I watched it for the first time today. All in all I think it's comparable to old Komugi in that sense - you brought up a good example.
