The adaptation of that one overrated manga is finally here.

 No.25320

If only they had listened about how much better Sengoku Youko is.

 No.25323

I started reading Hoshi no Samidare so I can get some background on the creator of this and it's pretty interesting though after volume 1 it seems like it's taking its time getting into things. This is his first anime isn't it? I have heard about HnS a lot so this should be interesting.

It's a good read, more straightforward than Spirit Circle but a bit more clumsy than both it and SY. You certainly need to read it before watching this, the first episode mirrors the second to last boss fight and the main character is almost exactly the secondary antagonist, there's a fair bit of spirit circle in there too with the flashbacks to magic land burning which may as well be the birth of the skeleton king scene.
It's clear he did not pull any stops with this, which is good, for years Mizukami has held that most anime are bad compared to manga and to go with JC staff who are well known for fucking it bad several times he must really trust whoever he's working with. Either that or the Yakuza are holding his wife as collateral.

I finished reading Samidare and Spirit Circle and both of them were pretty amazing. The characters in Samidare are unforgettable and Spirit Circle is just an unforgettable story altogether.
Spirit Circle builds on Samidare in a lot of ways, which I didn't realize until it was already happening. That was really cool.
I also watched the first episode of Planet With and it looks like it's off to a good start, though I expect that just like in his manga it won't be until later that we realize how everything is pieced together.

The one thing that irked me the most about Biscuit Hammer was the weak characterization of the main villian.

Do you really have a problem with this shot? I thought there was pretty much no question that Nebula were from another planet, so that we might see it at some point isn't that big a suprise.

Yeah it was pretty obvious. Things in general make a lot more sense after this episode, in any case.
I like where this is going. I hope we get to see the hero team suffer a lot.

Finally got around to it after going through and finishing Sengoku Youko and Spirit Circle. I'd been around two-thirds in each of them, and they finished deservingly well. I wish I'd continued to follow them, there's plenty minutiae I'd wish to discuss. But oh well, blaming my past self won't achieve shit.
Anyway, the best thing ever about Mizukami Satoshi is his love of manly lolis.

This sure is moving along at a fair place. Probably a good thing, I imagine I'd be losing interest if we were still working our way through all of the heroes at this point. It was pretty refreshing how they sidestepped a few of them.

The first death was able as impactful as I expected. None. The scene was almost nice, but the death was meaningless. And some implications about him were left untouched.

Exactly the opposite, an integral part of every Mizukami work is the slow buildup, and here it's kinda missing.
Well. Not that this buildup requires working our way through all the heroes.

P.S. Shoulda figured out this is the Snek Knight earlier. I feel stupid now. Anybody has a chart of all characters?

 No.25701

Snek Knight? Isn't it the secretary?

 No.25702

>>25701
A bit like Kumetan and Watashiya Kaworu Mizukami only has one set of characters. It isn’t helped that one of his manga was about parallel universe versions of them and it charted so well to his other works.

 No.25804

>>25701
Go read Spirit Circle. If you want a tl;dr, here you go: There is a set of higher beings who play the characters in any Mizukami work as D&D campaigns of a sort. The secretary and Snek Knight are obviously played by the same being.

P.S. Second half is much better. The eight episode especially was fucking great.

I have read that, but I still have no idea who is Snek Knight.

The Snake Knight from Hoshi no Samidare. She's one of Mizukami's characters that's left the most impression in me. But is it really her? Maybe it's Hanako?
Great. Now I just had to go and reread volume 6. How do I work while bawling like a motherfucker.

Is there a more up-to-date guide?

Okay, time for best guesses. May include (more) Sengoku Youko later on.

Okeya = Souya = Owl (= Senya)
Kouko = police woman? = Anima?
Rei = who? = Samidare?
Rune = Ginko = Tortoise?
East = who? = Lizard?
Tetsuma = Nezuya = Crow
Daiki = iunno = Cat
Nono = Secretary = Snake
Umi = Harumi or Nozomi? = Mantis
Bro = fuck, maybe Torai?
what about Animus / the Dragon?
But then I think Miu and Harumi are Tortoise and Hen, so maybe Rune is not Tortoise.

tl;dr: this was Mizukami-lite, the anime. Everything Mizukami-ish was more or less present, but only as a nod, rather than the fully realized implementation that happens in his manga series. They should have given him 26 episodes to play with.
