A simple, but enjoyable anime.
Main couple is solid from the start, no harem bullshit. Main character is a random determined nice buff guy, yet has very human insecurities about himself. Main girl is strong willed, but learns to let herself be embraced by him. Battles are cheap budget wise and not super strategical, yet, but getting to see how much his subject appreciate him enough to die for him and the idea of "uniting" the land keeps it entertaining enough.
And it will probably only get better with time. I hope.

It is hard to say without being familar with the source material, but this seems to me like the sort of adaption thats trying to get through too much material too quickly. It seems to me we're just being shown the bare minimum to advance the plot forward, and while the story is just about interesting enough for me to keep watching, we're not spending enough time with the characters for me to really care about them.
I hope you're right that it'll get better in time and as we get to more important events It'll slow down some.

It's honestly at times not even showing the 'bare minimum', it skipped loads of stuff. Didn't you feel like you were basically missing an episode between 2 and 3?

Yeah I was expecting this episode to be more stuff with the local lords.

Now it truly feels like this was suppose to be episode 12 or something.
The battles happen so fast it is hard to care about anything that is happening. Weirdly enough there is actually some more animation happening at times.

They are kind of amazing.
I mean, arrows against plate armor is one thing. Having basic ranged units capable of turning castles to rubble is another. (why even build castles then?)
And so after breaching the castle walls they decide to divert their forces to pursue a few fleeing troops onto the most unsafe territory, guided by king Stupid. Whose inevitable demise ends the battle.
From the moment they brought cavalry to a siege, there was not a single moment where I did not wonder what the fuck was going on.

Wait what the fuck, this is 24 episodes? Surely they don't mean to keep up this pacing the entire time.
After this episode though I don't particuarly feel like carrying on watching to find out.

To be fair the whole concept of an entire army in full plate armor was kind of shockingly retarded.

Nah this is like 6 tanks in fewer episodes
Maybe they're trying to cover all nine novels in one two-cour show.

I don't know about you, but these bellies are enough for me to watch it.
