Do we really need the hyperbole here too? The show was nothing special when you look past KyoAni's detailed art, and the art was largely wasted on the episode being nothing but talking heads and painfully unsubtle fist clenching.
No.22906
>>22905Yeah, aside from it being a very very good looking show I wasn't particularly engrossed by this episode. Maybe with the next few episodes it will turn out to be a really good take on the learning to be a real human bean formula but I'm not exactly holding my breath for the next episode right now.
No.22907
I home it crashes and burns, so Netflix never, ever again fucking fund an anime. Get the gaijin money out of this industry!

>>22906I heard a lot of good things about the novel, so I'm expecting a lot of this.
No.22913
>>22910God damn it, why do scenes like this always ruin it for me? I can buy that she's a super soldier of some kind, but seeing her running around on the battlefield punching people in the face with a gun makes it hard for to take it seriously.
No.22914
>>22905I forgot to mention that I also hate KyoAni's obnoxious visual filters, of which in this case we got everything being blurred to shit. At least I didn't notice any chromatic aberration this time.
No.22916
>>22914So what's wrong with the animation of the 1st episode of Violet Evergarden for you? I can't say it's perfect, but it's really well made.
No.22917
>>22916There's nothing wrong with the animation, if you don't consider the use of blur filters to fall under the animation. The animation is fantastic. The problem is the directing, which is incredibly dull, and focused far too much on characters standing around doing nothing or clenching their fists for most of the episode. When not doing either of those things, you get the scene in
>>22910 where I would complain about what appears to be Violet attempting to jump into a knee slide in the dirt before cutting to her jumping into the air to attack the soldiers, followed by a bizarre kick that misses and then suddenly turns downwards to kick the second soldier from below. If I were to give the director some credit I would say it was on purpose to show that Violet's superhuman abilities let her turn a whiffed kick into a deadly blow, but I don't have that much faith in them.
No.22932
>>22917I get your point. And I don't really think they'll show her doing superhuman's stuff again. The war is over.
No.22936
It wasn't as impressive as I was led to believe by all the hype. In many shots it looks like they made it too dark and then just increased the brightness to compensate, and it looks weird. The story is emotionally too much on the nose. The music is at times strange. Not really bad, but just not fitting what is happening.
No.22942
>>22932>The war is over. For now. I can't imagine this story not involving Violet going back to combat, probably dying at the end to make it a true tearjerker.

Why did the guy who was yelling at Glasses go to the dolls to have a letter written when he could read himself?

No.23432
>>23430Man that annoyed me. Would it be such a big deal to give her a believable age? I just can't suspend my disbelief given her background shown at the end of this episode.
No.23450
>>23432What's a believable age for a doll?
No.23454
Yeah this is ridiculous. No matter how you look at it she should be about 20.
No.23455

>>24825>>24826This sounds better than most KyoAni stuff lately, with the exception of S2-never-because-of-Kobayashi's-cock.
No.24829
>>24827Well, everything they've made lately that's not from their own LN imprint (Amagi, Hibike, Dragon Maid) has been good, despite Hibike S2 being somewhat of a disappointment.
VEG is from their own imprint, but I wouldn't be surprised if this was better than garbage like KnK, Chuu22, and Phantom World. Of course, that wouldn't be much of an accomplishment.
No.24830
>>24829So Amagi > VEG? I guess I must give a chance to that one first.
No.24831
>>24830I actually didn't watch VEG yet but Amagi is good. My main complaint is that nobody except the main characters ever get any meaningful attention, so I think it has a lot of wasted potential, but it's certainly better than the shit KyoAni was coming out with before it.
