I just saw the prologue and while it didn't impress me terribly, I do love me some male idols, and the animation seems to be very good.
I think I just miss UtaPri before it went full CG.
No.20865
Just keep watching. Since SideM anime is handled by two directors now and they promised that the anime will be a balance on TANOSHII and DRAMA (expect Doctor Chihaya's arc soon)
17 boys divided into smaller units, even then, is a bit too much. (even so, fans want all 46 idols in the anime, it's good they went with this route while thinking of the new fans)
>>20840The prologue is more like a continuation (side story actually) from the 765 im@s anime (movie specifically), I can understand non-fans getting a bit confused with it.
No.20872
>>20865I just watched the first episode and enjoyed it. It's seriously nice to see some male idolshit with a decent budget. Also, 28 year old idol dude is super moe to me, which goes to show I'm growing old.
No.20955
>>20931Excellent. I am watching a few of those this season. Like Tsukipro! Which sucks.
I don't even remember Tsukiuta despite the fact that I know I watched it all. So why am I watching this boring-ass show? Goddamnit.
No.20959
>>20958Right. Tsukiuta is the one where the girl idols are literal moon people aiming to become godesses by becoming idols.
I may not remember the rest of the show, but I do remember the feeling of "What the fuck" of that whole episode. Here's hoping Tsukipro does something similar because it is an honestly fucking boring show.
No.20962
>>20961As this pic would suggest
>>20958 episode 8 of Tsukiuta.
No.20990
>>20988Wow, this really well summarizes my dislike for idols.
No.21002
>>20988I haven't seen it yet, but my personal favorite are the two first seasons of UtaPri. I can't speak about character growth in any significant way beyond "Otoya stops being such an asshole", but other than that they are just plain fun. It honestly had me laughing all the way, and despite the fact that the final song was used EVERY EPISODE, when the final episode came, I still felt like one of the show's fans, cheering for the rainbow fuckers. Animation was great, too.
Seaons 3 and 4 are a disgrace because they forgot exchanged the fun for DRAMA, which felt hella out of place in a show where one of the idols used to be a literal cat, and the rival band invoked a dragon on stage to murder their audience. Nevermind Nanami, who seems to have had less than fifty lines between the last two seasons.
Though UtaPri being idolshit + otomeshit, it probably doesn't count.
No.21059
>>20982That was one of the worst OPs I've ever seen. And the animation in the band sequences was atrocious.
No.21083
I'm excited about the new WuG. For some reason I've grown fond of these girls whom I can barely remember from one instance to the next.
It's a really interesting experiment, too - it is well known that the main problem with Yamakan's projects is Yamakan himself, so in theory things should only get better if you remove him. So far, results fail to confirm this theory.
The new character designs don't even bother me much, at least I can still tell who's who (that's something I couldn't say about Gunslinger Girl). The 2000's animation, complete with 2000's QUALITY, does bother me a bit. The weird CG models, with those extremely thin arms, bother me too. But my main problem is that they seem to be writing it as a 2000's harem anime with the manager as the spineless, dumb MC and the president as the abusive, irrational, pushy main love interest. Just what obscure studio politics gave birth to this project?
No.21084
>>21083I am no artist, but it feels like the perspective in that screenshot is all sorts of fucked up.
>>21059Fuck Dynamic Chord, seriously. Even though some of my favorite seiyuu are in it, I cannot justify watching more of that train wreck. Fuck the three episode rule.
No.21103
>>21083>The new character designs don't even bother me much, at least I can still tell who's whoI don't feel like the new designs have done anything to help that at all. It just looks even worse than it did last time, especially with those horrific side profile shots.
>But my main problem is that they seem to be writing it as a 2000's harem anime with the manager as the spineless, dumb MC and the president as the abusive, irrational, pushy main love interest. Seriously, what the fuck did they do to Matsuda?
No.21269
>>21267Producer-san is the cutest guy in this show.
No.21354
>>21349It is because they cut off Yamakan. It is a restart that pretends it is not. The whole thing of them not being your generic idol group is pretty much throw out as well. This season the focus is obviously a lot more on "I am so kawaii" than it ever was for the first. Their problems have degraded to being the absolute same ones most idols have.
Don't forget it is a commercial for the real idol group. That's why they probably have left the time flow to progress with ours, which doesn't work with the character and plot regression.
If you want something more unique from an idol anime I am going to remind again about Shounen Hollywood.
No.21510
>>21502From which episode are they even from?
But they are probably from the mobile game. There are a lot of characters from there that didn't go into the anime. And I definitely don't think there were male idols other than Jupiter in the first series.
No.21607
Idolish7 was cute. Cute! I actively like most of the boys and even Manager-chan is cute. Every time her mug is on screen I am reminded of Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne.
>>21510The latest one. There were also others in random places during the episode, but I didn't screencap them.
No.21659
>>21658You will have to define better.
It has less from the badly animated song parts, but it is pretty much the same thing. But then again I didn't pay too much attention when watching episode 1, so I am basing this "the same" more on episode 2, which I quite enjoyed for the chasing of the reporter.
It is noting great, but I find it to have this weird, yet somehow appealing atmosphere about it. The action is kind of slow and lethargic and so are the characters.
No.21660
>>21659I mean the badly animated concert part. It was really, really bad in the first ep.
Can't say the lethargic atmosphere is my cup of tea, so I guess I'll continue not watching this show. I have recetnly found out that while I'm all about male idols, I am very specifically about fun, happy male idols. For all that I enjoyes Tsukiuta, Tsukipro is just boring. Every episode feels like a small eternity.
But I'm glad you are enjoying it.
