Who do you think is gonna animate this? Probably not Shaft, but ACGT actually has a show this season, unlike the last few years.

Index III is basically confirmed too, Miki hinted it and Dengeki's website has 'a certain series' on it (not A Certain series, but they're PROBABLY not going to pull another Heavy Object unless Miki legit wants to play with his life

It has been long years since I watched it for the last time, but here is my humble opinion, no spoilers.
The first episode was a new country, the next one seems to be the Coliseum country.
As far as the voices go I think they are relatively fine. I have no grind about them. The art design is too normal, though. It could have been the design of just about any other anime. Everything is modern and shiny and there is a lot of blur on the backgrounds. There is nothing special about it. The old Kino used to be more grey and more artsy, in a good way.
You can tell they are trying to be slow and chill with the dialogues, but they focus too much with the camera on stuff, while Kino just shuts up. And then there was the "shock" moment, when the nature of the country is revealed. It was overplayed. Even though Kino herself didn't have any strong emotions about it, the music and the atmosphere got all tense. That was very annoying.
The story of the episode itself was probably not an original one, but it wasn't the strongest either. It was easy to predict what will happen. They probably choose this as a "good shocking chapter." That said I didn't find the shocking moment shocking at all, but whatever. The worst part about is that nothing seemed to really matter other than the shocking moment. There was no really interesting conversations going on. No interesting exploration. Kino just walked around the town/country so we could focus with the camera on a few foreshadowings.
My final grade would be that they managed to make Kino feel generic and mediocre. And that is probably a very bad grade.

Well, this sure was right in the middle of the Archipelago tradition of Kino. Libertarians are really easy to understand. Yuuki Aoi certainly is the best possible choice, I applaud whoever decided to take her on board. The animation is average as fuck, but it wasn't a problem. Like how the lack of worldbuilding was. I hoped at least to hear more of Kino's conversation with that terrorist. But whatever, it's not like worldbuilding has ever been a strong point for Kino no Tabi.

It is kind of funny how the translator just gave up on indicating that the guy switched from Kino-kun to Kino-san.
Also it seems like this Kino adaptation is rushing to include story progression in it. Which I bet is going to make it feel even more mediocre.

I couldn't take the mob scene seriously at all. A minute in I was wondering if they all left to draw straws to decide who got to shoot the guy, who had to stand around in the mob looking meacing, and who got to deliver the whole speech before delivering the final blow. Assuming they do this every time just made it even more ridiculous.

>>20973
I noticed in the first episode too that they had Hermes refer to Kino as "he" during some gender-neutral dialogue. I don't even remember, was the original ever actually wanting you to think Kino was a guy, or just being ambiguous?

Never watched the anime, but I've read bits of the LN. I was surprised to find out she was a girl but I was never led to think she was a boy. Speaking from fuzzy memory here, it's just ambiguous about it for a while and then lets you know she's a girl without making a big deal either way.

No, I like her too. Potato Kino is cute and nostalgic, but the modern design is better and reflects the LN's current art-style.

One thing that stood out to me in the 2017's adaption of the latest episode is the pacing. Prior to this episode, I though 2017 did okay with how well things flowed, but its version of Country of Adults doesn't feel like it's paced correctly; everything went by too fast. Perhaps I need to do another re-watch of 2003.

How did you anons like it?
Which version of loli Kino do you like the best?

 No.22343

>>22329
I honestly don't remember too much about the '03 version specifically, so I can't say. This episode definitely felt fast but I don't remember it being better paced in the old version, but it might just be my memory failing me. I remember the general gist and what got adapted before and whatnot but not the actual details. It was just so long ago…

I think the lesson here is that we all need to re-watch 2003.

You're probably right. The animation in it is so smooth even though it generally looks like a joke these days. I wonder what it is about the old animating style that makes it feel more fluid.

>I wonder what it is about the old animating style that makes it feel more fluid.
I think it depends on how dedicated the animators and animation director are. More money also helps.

It's over, and it was solid.
How'd you like it, anons? What do you think the chances are that we'll get another adaption in the near future?

 No.22510

>>22507
Surprised at how decent it was.
I thought it would be kind of rubbish honestly, and the weird half-potatoe artstyle put me off in the preview, but it legitimately grew on me, the artstyle got to the point where I actually prefer how it looks now, I got plenty used to the new voice, and all in all the pacing, the adaption, just about all of it was on point. If I have any complaints it was that the adaption was too short and that Hermes' voice really put me off and I can't put the finger on it.
It's surprising how little discussion of it there was anywhere. Maybe many people didn't like it as much as I did? Or maybe because half the episodes were re-dos, so there wasn't much to discuss?
How many new fans do you reckon this hooked in, I think further adaptions will depend on that.

Now this was some stupid ass shit. And the ugly CG made it just that much worse. It could have been a descent episode if it wasn't this badly made.

 No.22524

>>22510
>Or maybe because half the episodes were re-dos, so there wasn't much to discuss?
Actually I believe only two episodes were remade. The Colosseum one and the Kino one. And in the original Colosseum the dog didn't even speak, but the ex-prince wasn't used as a character with his own travels.
About discussion, what is there to really to talk about? The philosophy is basic and it doesn't even have the artsy presentation of the old. It is basically fairytales that have no lessons and are not even fairy any more.

So I take it you didn't like the new adaption?

As far as Kino no Tabi goes, you can say I didn't like it much. As far as Generic Anime 10452 goes, it is okay. So my opinion hasn't changed too much since my post here >>20786 Maybe I feel a little more positive about it, but that's all.
