I'm not looking forward to the parts with god. I didn't like them in the LN and I probably won't like them now. Happy they didn't throw them in the first episode at least.

And I randomly got to read the synopsis. Seems like the MC is also a Japanese salaryman. I guess the author is indeed just trying to make it as absurd as possible?

>>18209>I guess the author is indeed just trying to make it as absurd as possible? That's very much the impression I got from the afterword. I'm quite glad, I'd probably dispair if I thought the author was taking this seriously.
No.18238
>>18197Are you serious? This can barely be called an adaptation. They have changed almost everything there is. At this point I wouldn't be surprised if they don't even bother making the bait and switch you would think they are doing. Even if we ignore all the visual and technology changes and they actually start following the original properly the first episode will just remain this thing that doesn't really fit that much any more.
No.18239
>>18238Like what? I just gave it a quick skim through again and it seems like a somewhat accurate adaption of the last half of chapter 3. The biggest change I can see is that they made a bigger deal out of the two sods who get sent off to the bunker, they're only breifly mentioned in a couple of sentences in the novel, but other than that, pretty accurate.
No.18243
>>18241Ah, much of that shit for me just comes under 'unimportant details that I don't really mind being changed'. Sure sucks if you were attached to the desigms from the manga or whatever, but it don't bother me one bit. Holograms are legit by the way, though they only show up a bit later on. Sure, the characters are perhaps portayed a little differently which is much more important to me, but there was nothing here that really breaks the continuity of the story. Even Visha's reaction to Tanya at the end probably ain't all that important, she was probably gonna realize there's something off about tanya sooner or later anyway.
On another note, I just read through what there is of the manga and fuck this depiction of Tanya. In my mind when this happens she's just smiling smugly to herself, I won't stand for this shoujo manga shit.
No.18335
>>18333It seems like that every version of the story (LN, manga, anime) is different in the presentation.
LN - pseudo-intellectual
manga - a comedic note to everything.
anime - pseudo-serious and realistic?
No.18336
>>18335Anime is half-ironic realistic, I'd say. While it's keeping the pseudo-realism, it also makes sure to hammer in how intrinsic is the irony and the ridiculousness. I at least found it plenty funny, and it's clear it was made with laughter.
Keeping the tension with visual style and soundtrack is a good choice, meshes well with the medium. You want the whole episode to be a single experience, and to do the laughing after it ends, while you're remembering all the over the top and funny moments.
No.18339
>>18338There is an off-cut explanation to some of her early privileges, which I am not sure if they are going to mention later in the anime or not. Most of what was shown here was suppose to be for later too. The two episodes together took away a lot from a certain scene in the future.

>>18339I think what was supposed to be happening there is she's in the final year of the school and as a final year student part of the curriculum is taking part in training the guys in the year below.

>>18340You are right. The explanation was about something else with not much relevance for now, or ever, either.

Oh man, just read the manga.
I completely lost it when I reached the South Park pages.

So what, that was it? That moment of her disciplining her soldiers was the sole reason for the advisor guy to be calling her the devil himself? I was expecting something much more substantial than that.
No.18471
>>18451They cut out a metric ton of the comedy, but that's okay. The episode kept going what the anime already had.
>>18455Yeah, this does sound like their priorities. The more important, the goofier.
No.18479
>>18478Oh, but the translator links in the comments youtube clips too, done by somebody else.
Both translations need editing and timing. For example I'd take "resolve" from Skythewood's scripts and "disappointment" from Bushido's for ep #01. And the scripts are overall too heavy to read, so need editing for brevity, if nothing else. But, well, the youtube clips seem adequate enough.

Also, blob Tanya is best Tanya.

>>18719>It is quite weird that they would have both bombers and interceptorsWhat makes you say that?
No.18723
>>18721In Drifters I could at least excuse the "They just never thought of using this communication magic in battle," because at the very least it is not something physical and overall everyone was clueless of any tactical and strategical thought anyway. But how many times do you have to see bombers killing everything bellow them to realize how useful there are? Sure, I am not an expert on WW1 so I might have missed the part where everyone was completely oblivious, but I find it hard to believe. Though I guess now that I think about it, last episode last mostly critical of the invaders from the south than all countries around. So maybe I am over-blowing it.
Or you thought I meant I find it weird that they have airplanes at all?
No.18724
>>18723>Or you thought I meant I find it weird that they have airplanes at all?Yeah my bad I completly fucked up comprehending your post.
No.18733
>>18719>It is quite weird that they would have both bombers and interceptors, yet the whole last episode was about how clueless they are about air superiority.Consider that irl planes were used for something more than recon from the Balkan War of 1912 onward only. WW1 is what cements in the reality of air superiority. So air supremacy exists as a concept for no more than twenty years, probably much less.
Also consider that while planes seem to be still in early stages of development, they have full-fledged magical radars. In a sense, the defense equipment against air raids is far ahead of the planes themselves. If you can always react to an incoming air raid with even time to spare, you may not actually realize how awful the situation becomes if the enemy controls the sky.
But I think the whole point of that episode was to show Not-Romania is backwards and underequipped to fight a modern war. See, because Poland does not exist, Not-Romania has to become the butt of this joke.
By the way, in episode 6 the unit that Tanya led climbed to 8500, then went back down to 6500… or maybe they didn't show us the scenes in chronological order. Also, I was mentally adding Tanya's comments that taking out the bombers would be way easier and safer than engaging the mages. Guess the anime indeed suffers from not having enough fun in it.

This was pretty entertaining, but only getting what feels like a third of the story sucks.
