Making a dictionary could be an interesting enough unique story and the main character is just the right kind of autistic.

I almost forgot about this one, because of setting my RSS to HS.

It's rather mundane subject matter, but I liked it enough. That talking dictionary part in the middle sucked, though.

I knew it was almost a certain thing with that opening scene, plus the OP/ED, but I was hopping for no romance. Now that the love interest was introduced I can only hope for no drama. She better not be a fucking bitch.

Her voice is dream tier.

Don't think he made a very good first impression by appearing so meek that he fell over upon receiving a slight surprise.

I am sure it is going to be very sweet at first, but I can't trust romance seinen or josei. I expect eventually some drama to be triggered and for her to say something like "I can't deal with your autism any more." Or maybe even the other way around, though less likely.

There were two groups ripping from Amazon, and they both dropped it once they found out Commie was subbing this. How unfortunate.

 No.17514

Second episode was kind of boring. Too much empty talk about dictionaries.

>>17512
Until herkz starts stalling this, it's not much of a problem. Script is top notch.

The whole concept of this anime seems pretty lost on an English-speaking audience though, given that we can google anything and come up with 20 definitions.
From a Japanese perspective, it's still really neat though. Good show.

Oh, and thanks to Commie for their completely absent TL here.

 No.17624

Japanese can and do it themselves, you know? You don't even have to google it because there are app dictionaries that have everything even sorted for easy reading.

 No.17625

Yes, but keep in mind that Japan has a much, much smaller tech literacy rate. It's developing into a problem there, where entire industries are being supported by the computer skills of a handful of turbonerds.

Just to add to this, here's a good, quick read about tech literacy in Japan.

Computers not being as popular is not the same as installing an app on your phone. It is a one-click event.

 No.17630

It isn't necessarily lost. Since even those 20 definitions had to be made by someone. Dictionaries might be dying, which they are, but someone still has to make the digital ones.

I think this isn't a difference in culture but of age, this could easily be pre-smartphone times.

 No.17631

Physical dictionaries might be dying*

 No.17633

>>17623
Really? As if nobody makes dictionaries in English? Come fucking on.

The problem here is how modern dictionaries in book format are pretty much coupled with digital dictionaries, because why the fuck not. But I think Fune wo Amu is set in the 90s or something like that? And is full of anachronisms like that rotary phone in the mansion. So it's more cute than annoying that the bunch aren't cutting-edge and porting everything to the digital plane.

P.S. Why the fuck would you want a translation of the definition of some random word? It's completely not relevant to anything. It'd be strange if anybody did tl it, though Commie are often known to do unnecessarily huge amount of typesetting, so you're excused for expecting them to be better than everybody else.

1. If he can't read it himself, then obviously he wouldn't have known that that's all it was.
2. It should've been translated anyway since given that they spent a cut showing it to the viewer it was clearly intended to be read by those Japanese viewers watching it, so it should be translated for the English viewers too.

 No.17640

>>17636
1. They spent a fair deal of time hammering down that these cards contain word definitions. The word that is being defined on this card is "distance", which is indeed part of the typesetting.
2. Those viewing it on television won't have time to read much more than "kyori".

But I was wrong. The definition of the word does start "kanojo", so I guess it's indeed relevant. Not that I managed to read that while watching the episode. Eyes are obviously drawn to the red lines, so you see only "kyori" to the left of them and "tabi" to the right (which isn't relevant), so that's why I didn't notice it before. And, of course, besides the definition being something random about "kanojo", it has nothing else to do with the situation. But it still explains why the guy got the idea about MC having a crush from there.

Is it just me or are they forgetting something in this anime? Like having a plot? I didn't even get to see any of the sweet romance I was promised. Suddenly they are already old and married. With only the two of them eating at dinner the granny is probably dead too.

Another episode without even mentioning the wife, even though we got to see the love letter again. What was even the point of this romance sub-plot.

I was constantly thinking about this too.

At least the daughters of best couple were fucking cute. The anime would have had a good end even if just for showing them.
