The key animator count is back down to 5. Kyoani is on track again, I guess.

They're the battle commentators. You should've watched enough Shonen to know this.

Hopefully now we can put Oboe drama aside and get back to the characters that matter and the lead up to the competition. Did Mizore or Nozomi even have any dialogue in S1? Because I don't remember either of them at all from before this arc.
Ribbon is still great.

Asuka on the other hand is pretty amazing with how she just keeps getting worse and worse.

This was terrible. Atrocious on all levels. They spend 5 episodes on this dumb drama and it kept getting dumber and dumber until it reached a pinnacle of dumbness you can only admire for how dumb it was.

This is progressively getting worse. Adachi's school dramas are more tolerable than this never ending roller-coaster of bullshit.

I thought this episode was better, since we're finally finding out why Asuka is such a bitch. Though it was odd that she just showed up to play with the band on the day after having been absent for a month; it's bizarre that Taki would allow that.
On the other hand, it just occurred to me how Reina has been massively sidelined this entire season, for arguably being the most important and prominent character of S1.

Fuck Reina, what about the other two? They basically don't even exist at this point. This episode is probably the most screen time they had in a while outside of the ending.
Back to Asuka, how was she not making trouble for the club by not going for a month? How the hell did that help her studies? Was she sent to concentration study camp? And why is she suddenly the kind of person that can go against her parent only half-heartedly?

Midori and the other short-haired chick were never relevant or important characters. They were both already sidelined a few episodes into S1.

>Back to Asuka, how was she not making trouble for the club by not going for a month?

At first I was assuming this was her dodging the question of not quitting and that she actually was going to, but then she didn't. Yeah, it doesn't make sense, and I'm hoping that's going to get explained.
>And why is she suddenly the kind of person that can go against her parent only half-heartedly?
Asuka has always been shown to avoid dealing with problems and act facetiously in regards to her own issues, but it was quite clear that she cared about playing music more than anything else, as illustrated in S1 when she told Midori to fuck off if she was going to drag down their practice. It seems reasonable enough that not wanting to quit the club would be the one thing she'd stand up for, but her mother clearly has issues, which is something that also needs to be expanded on.

Kumiko stepping up would have been nice and all, but if the reason behind the whole drama wasn't something this silly, it didn't prolong for this long and wasn't ultimately resolved by technically a deus ex machina that had nothing to do with the characters' determination anyway.

Don't worry, it was all actually a lead up to the new Reina drama.

This sure was a weak finale. The first half is great and we get the most well-animated musical performance of the show, and then they follow it up with the most poorly-animated one of the show along with several minutes of flashback footage. We get some degree of resolution between Kumiko and Asuka, but not for a single other character, which is something they could have spent that flashback time on instead.
What a resounding whimper of an ending.

I found it very annoying how they didn't show anything musical from the nationals. I don't usually like using cliches like that, but I am glad it is over. It had some nice ideas, but overall it was a melodrama shitfest. By imagining Kumiko and Asuka as better people (meaning thinking of them only as one line positivish stereotypes instead thinking of what actually happened) Kumiko coming to like her was sweat.
